Molina is a 35yo catcher on a two year deal. After which, even if he maintains Type A status there will be no takers (remember Varitek). In other words they would give up a 2nd round pick for at most 2 years from a 35 / 36 YO catcher with a sub-.300 OBP. You can get Olivo or Barajas. both 3 or 4 years younger, without giving up the pick for not a lot less offence. If they do not sign another Type A FA that is a different story; but the incremental cost of Molina (with another Type A signing) over Barajas or Olivo is too much.
