Mike Silverman of the Boston Herald says that the Red Sox are expressing interest in Matt Holliday.
According to Silverman, the Red Sox consider Holliday a more expensive alternative to Jason Bay, should they be unable to retain him.
Speaking of Bay, Peter Gammons of ESPN.com believes that he will eventually re-sign with the Red Sox for somewhere in the four year, $64 million range.
Yesterday Jon Heyman of SI.com said that Bay recently rejected the Red Sox initial offer of four years and $60 million, which you can see here.
…i don’t know what Bay will ultimately get, but considering what he recently turned down from Boston i feel it will take considerably more to secure him…but i do agree and think Bay will ultimately re-sign in Boston but i feel that he will wait for Holliday to sign first so he has a basis to set his salary demands on…
Gammons does not think that the Mets will go that high to sign Bay, and he thinks the Angels are too busy trying to retain Chone Figgins and John Lackey.

Bay could find the market softer than he anticipates and it’s possible he’ll regret not taking 4/$60. That’s a lot of coin in a recessed market where not that many teams are expressing interest in the “big bat.”
But I could easily be wrong.
I don’t understand why the Red Sox want to sign a left fielder, they traded for Hermida, what was the point of that trade if they want Bay back?
I think the MEts should be competing to get LAckey and Holliday or BAy. This is what I’d do. Sign LAckey. Sign either Holliday or Bay for LF. Sign Molina or Barajas. Trade for Phillips and Arroyo or Harang. Trade CAstillo for bullpen and bench players. Re-sign Cora. Resign Putz or get Biemel. There is no reason why Omar can’t get this as the future Mets. It shoould happen because it is possible.

nope
Also can we please stop with the heyman love the guy knows nothing
Agreed, I feel like Heyman writes to make a buzz, instead of writing to report stories. But still don’t understand why the Red Sox would want Bay, if they now have Hermida…
Yeah, this is why I’m keep posting my same comment about my opinion because what Heyman says, I believe it isn’t true.
I think they likely view Hermida as a 4th outfielder. That’s teh AL East, where starters everywhere else are role players.
I think they will use him in a big trade that is coming up.
