In a report in today’s Boston Globe, Peter Abraham says that Aroldis Chapman has hired the Hendricks brothers as his agents.

…i always enjoyed reading Abraham’s work when he was with the Journal News even if it was for the Yankees and i wish him luck up in Boston…

Abraham says that Chapman’s former agent, Edwin Mejia, is a lawyer with limited experience in baseball, but helped him defect and establish residency outside of Cuba.

Other players who the Hendricks brothers represent are Andy Pettitte, Joba Chamberlain and former Yankee Roger Clemens.

…how convenient…sign on with the agent who has a deep relationship with the Yankees…i think he will ultimately end up in the Bronx but there is no way to tell how good he will be in the end…i thought Jose Contreras would be phenomenal based on what i had seen in international competition, and outside of a couple of spurts, he never was as good as advertised and it just goes to show that Major League Baseball is a true measure of a players mental and physical talent…of course Chapman is younger which is in his favor, but the fact that he is such an unknown quantity tells me the Mets should pass…if it was a year ago, i’d bet the Mets would be more involved and willing to take the risk, but their needs are so much different at this point in time…

For more, check out Abraham’s article in the Globe here.

Keith Law has Chapman ranked as the #5 best Free Agent in this year’s class ahead of Andy Pettite and Randy Wolf. I find that somewhat surprising considering he wasn’t even that dominant of a pitcher in the WBC.

Interesting that the pitcher he has ranked #10, Noel Arguelles, also a Cuban Defector might prove to be even better. Noel is 19 FYI
