The Chicago White Sox have signed Andruw Jones to a one year contract for $500,000.

In addition, Jones can earn another $1 million in performance bonuses.

According to Bruce Levine of ESPN, the 33 year old Jones is not being considered as a starting outfielder, as the White Sox are looking at him to solidify their bench.

…amazing…i remember when Andruw was absolutely dominating this league, and he looked as good as anyone i had ever seen in center field…i thought for sure he was on a path for the hall of fame, and now he is relegated to bench duty, trying to stay in the majors…

For more on Jones and the White Sox, check out ESPN here.

Good. Good for him. Good for us. Didn’t want him, afraid we might do something stupid

Off Topic: Looks like we are gonna be getting back Elmer Dessens per MLB Trade Rumors.

He was effective late in the season, but I’m not sure it warrants a guaranteed big league deal. I wonder what they are working on.

At that price, I wish the Mets had take a chance on him. Fan graphs had him valued at 3.6 million last year.

Strange deal at this time. Would think he could wait out that deal and it would still be there for him in February. Could find a deal that is going to offer him more playing time or some more money in the mean time… Maybe he just likes Chicago?

He knew nobody else would touch him, he jumped at the first offer.

THANK GOD he’s off the market before Minaya contacted him too.

MetsFan06 November 25, 2009 at 6:31 pm

Actually, I bet Omar did contact him since he is keeping his options open.

Big Lou November 25, 2009 at 6:33 pm

they don’t need dessens. he is 38 years old

Mets5rocks November 25, 2009 at 8:36 pm

yep 38, and sadly he was one of the better arms out in the pen by the end of the ‘09 season.

I think that since Dye is gonna leave Chi-Sox, he’s might end up as their center fielder or right fielder, with Rios being the other one of those 2. I like this move. Good for Andruw that he gets another chance.

statnut November 25, 2009 at 11:55 pm

Rios is more likely to be in CF than Jones.
