Marlins are not in a hurry to trade Johnson. They have control over him for 2 years. Marlins will hold out for the best offer and no doubt will want Ike Davis from us. I like Johnson better but it comes down to this. The availability right now. Halliday or Lackey?

Right but Johnson has been injured in multiple seasons, so that makes me a little nervous. Plus, with him under their control for a couple more years they are going to ask for the whole farm; I guess they would ask to start with F-Mart, Mejia, Tejada, Davis, Flores and Holt/Niese. Remember, this is the same team that was not willing to budge off of a Wright for Willis trade a few years back, and that was when Willis was in decline whereas Johnson seems more of a certainty.

Everything. Plus the kitchen sink. Johnson has only scratched at the surface of how dominating he can be.

I believe if your going to make a big trade with big time prospects, it should be for this guy. He's the kind of big tall hard throwing pitchers we would see 15 years ago. Normally you hesitate to trade the future for an ageing superstar, but the way I look at it is tradeing away a few of your maybe maybe's and in return getting a good #2 pitcher for the future. These are the kind of long term core players the mets need to build around. Reyes,Wright, Frenchy,Beltran and another premier star. Along with 2 starters like Santana and Johnson. With a bulpen core of K-rod maybe a new set-up guys,Feliciano and Parnell. Once you have the framework of a winning team, filling holes as Omar does remarkably well, is a much easier task.
This is why I believe the mets should go big after a not only win-now player, but as well as 5 years down the road. A core like that is worth giving up a few maybe prospects like F-Mart, Meija or Tehada. A long as its not Ike Davis.

I totally agree. I think he is a very good pitcher but the Marlins would have even more pitching difficulties if they traded him.

I think Johnson would be better long term for the Mets than Halladay but would the Marlins trade within the NL East ? I don't think the Marlins will talk to a division rival. One thing that would benefit the Mets is taking on salary from the Marlins. I would offer F-Mart, Meija, Tejada to start.
