The Mets have added former Reds GM Wayne Krivsky to their front office staff, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Krivsky served as an assistant with the Mets in 2008, then spent the 2009 season with the Orioles as a Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations.

To see his track record as GM of the Reds, such as trading Wily Mo Pena for Bronson Arroyo; and trading for Brandon Phillips, who he signed to a long-term deal; check out this post from MLB Trade Rumors.

Picking up Brandon Phillips was a better move.

Hey a different voice. I have no problem with Omar getting this year to figure things out but if he doesn’t it seems as if his replacement is waiting in the wings. Krivsky is a very good talent evaluator. Phillips was a great move as was drafting Dunn and the Arroyo move. I like it.

Dont know much about this guy, but it seems that while the reds havent been very successful record wise they seem to always have decent young talent so maybe this guy can help in the evaluating/development areas we have obvious problems with.

Next you’re going to question giving a 6th try to the guy who used to run the Expos…are you implying we try to bring in guys from winning organizations? That’s radical…

We can’t have that,….it would make too much sense! I have to wonder though, just how many cooks are gonna fit in the Mets kitchen?

just trying to think positive. Obviously Id prefer if the Mets would wise up and poach some guys from the Red Sox, Angels, or Twins front office but thats just never going to happen.

I think this guy did good with the Reds. He got guys such as Phillips , Arroyo and Dunn. All talented players.

Didn’t he spend time with the Mets in 2008 after getting fired from Cincy?

Krivsky was known for signing older pitchers and trading a lot. The latter is a good thing, since Omar is best known for showing too much patience and only trading as a last resort. The prior is not so good.

But he is also good at talent eval and building a farm system. His team wasn’t good yet but his farm was — which makes him a good assistant to Omar.
