Buzz: Mets trying to trade Castillo, Burrell & Pierre an Option
Update at 10:35 am:
In a post to his Twitter page, here, Sherman now says the Rays are growing less hopeful about trading OF Pat Burrell to the Cubs for OF Milton Bradley.

…i think it’s pretty clear, the Mets are trying to trade 2B Luis Castillo…
According to Joel Sherman in the New York Post, if the Cubs agree to send Bradley to the Rays in exchange Burrell, the Mets would consider swapping Castillo for Burrell, who has one year and $9 million left on his contract.
However, Sherman quotes a Mets official as saying, “Burrell’s poor defense and less than ebullient personality are major drawbacks to complete that deal.”
In November, Jon Heyman of SI.com said the Dodgers had contacted the Mets about Castillo as they look to replace Orlando Hudson at second base.
Yesterday, Steve Henson of Yahoo! Sports said there are three or four teams interested in Dodgers OF Juan Pierre, who will earn $10 million next season and $8.5 million in 2011, after which he can become a free agent.
However, Sherman believes the Dodgers are not interested in trading Pierre for Castillo. Instead, according to Hensen, the Dodgers are looking to swap out Pierre with a ‘bad-contract starter.’
Nevertheless, John Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com said, “One Dodgers person seemed confident this morning that there will be enough interest in Pierre for him to be moved.”
…i do not get the same vibe from people with the Mets, regarding castillo…
…in case you’re wondering, burrell, who is a career .249 hitter against right-handed pitching, has not played first base since the 2000 season, as a rookie with the Phillies…
Speaking of second baseman…
Marlins 2B Dan Uggla is unsettled by all the trade talk involving his name, according to MLB.com.
…the buzz from the Winter Meetings suggests there is about a 50–50 chance uggla gets traded before the end of the week… i don’t think the Mets are interested… they value defense and speed at second…
