Buster Olney of ESPN.com believes the Blue Jays are currently in ‘discussion mode’ regarding Roy Halladay, though a deal is not close right now.
That said, Olney said here that Halladay is open to all possibilities, including the Angels, but Jon Heyman of SI.com says the Angels are only interested in a deal if he is willing to sign a long term contract extension.
…the word on doc is he prefers an east coast team because he wants to train in florida, but i have to believe if the Blue Jays can work out a deal with a west coast team and that team can offer doc the money and years he wants in an extension, he will take it, and it will make it easier for Toronto to get a deal done since there are more options available…
Meanwhile, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says the Tampa Bay Rays could be interested in acquiring Halladay, and the Rays could offer LHP Wade Davis and B.J. Upton to Toronto, who would then flip Upton to a third team.
However, Peter Gammons from ESPN says the Rays flatly denied discussing such a deal.
…i couldn’t see doc approving a trade to Tampa Bay because he will likely require a contract extension, and i don’t think Tampa Bay is in doc’s ballpark in terms of dollars and years on a contract…

I hope Doc ends up on the Angels or in Boston. Just hopefully not on the Phils or on the Yanks.
“Buster Olney of ESPN.com believes the Blue Jays are currently in ‘discussion mode’ with the Blue Jays regarding Roy Halladay…”
The Blue Jays are talking to themselves about Halladay, huh? Seems counterproductive. Well, at least they know they won’t rip themselves off.
Come on, guys, it’s day one! Don’t burn out so soon!
I jsut don’t Omar to mess up. Getting Piere would be a HUGE mistake.
The Blue Jays are in discussion mode with the Blue Jays?
I win! (See above.)
Good job :)
I like Halladay, he would make a great 1-2 punch with Santana. But having said that, he is not coming to Queens and if the Jays do trade him I hope is to the Angels. It won’t be good for baseball if he ends up with either Boston or the Yankees.
Let’s just make it more competitive.
Just keep Halladay in the AL, I know the Mets aren’t going to get him. (we’re better off)
Matt, I don’t think you really need to keep reporting on Halladay. I don’t think the Mets are even remotely in the Halladay sweepstakes, nor should they be.
Next rumor…
Excuse me…Michael.
I would love Halladay and I still think he should be looked into.
The Rays would be an ideal landing spot for him from my point of view, keeps him from Boston and the Yanks but they still have to face him and keeps him out of the NL
He was looked into and I doubt it will happen. Omar has to look into other ideas and not trade Castillo for Pierre.
I doubt that will happen well it might but there is a lot rumors swirling around Castillo which i must say is a little surprising to me, I didn’t think it would be priority one to get rid of him but maybe he has too much bad energy associated with him.
as for Halladay, I am dreaming of him under my Christmas tree but I always figured it to be a long shot
