Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com believes the Yankees, D-Backs and Tigers were discussing a three-way trade that could have sent OF Curtis Granderson to the Bronx, Edwin Jackson to Arizona and prospect Max Scherzer to Detroit, but the deal has reached an ‘impasse.’
…earlier today, the buzz in Indianapolis said the Tigers were looking for top, young, zero-to-three pitching prospects in return for jackson…
Earlier today on ESPN News, Peter Gammons said the Tigers asked the Yankees for RHP Phil Hughes and top OF prospect Austin Jackson in a deal for Granderson, then asked the Cubs for top SS prospect Starlin Castro.
…those are pretty serious packages for granderson… the Mets can afford to get him, but i just don’t think they’re inclined to part with a player like Ike Davis… Omar Minaya told reporters today he doesn’t intend to deal from the team’s top minor league talent… i agree, i don’t think this is the off season to do that, and so i believe he’s right… but, this also means the Mets will struggle to acquire a player like granderson…
…at some point, every season, i do it, and i hear from other fans doing, and we complain that the Mets have a weak farm system, they need to rebuild the system, etc., etc., and then we all demand they trade their best prospects in moves like the above… well, at some point, a team has to not make the deal and let the farm grow… and, it seems like now is that time…
