News: Mets hire Bob Melvin to be a Scout

David Lennon of Newsday confirms the hiring of Bob Melvin as a major league scout.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post believes the Mets have hired Melvin to be a major league scout.

In 2003, Melvin won 93 games with the Mariners in his first year as a manager; he then led the D-Backs to a National League West title in 2007, with a record of 90–72, while winning the NL’s Manager of the Year.

According to Wikipedia, “His nickname, given to him by Mark Grace, is The Mad Scientist, which was derived from his tendency to use various different line-ups to a high (and somewhat surprising) degree of success.
