News: Jeff Francoeur is Santa

By Matthew Cerrone on Dec 09, 2009, 4:35 pm

The Mets will hold their annual Kids Holiday Party in Citi Field next Tuesday, during which Jeff Francoeur will portray Santa Claus, while Jose Reyes, Bobby Parnell, Angel Pagan and Jon Niese will dress as elves.

The players will hand out presents to children from the five boroughs of New York City and sing holiday carols along with the students.

I don’t know, I thought Santa had more patience at the plate.

Bye Jeff. Don’t most of these Santas usually get shipped out? Willie, Kris Benson, etc.

I think Wright did it in his first or second year. Maine and Pelfrey I think are the last two.

OK – yeah, I thought that Maine might have done it once. I just checked –

        2005 – Kris Benson
        2006 – Paul Lo Duca
        2007 – John Maine
        2008 – Mike Pelfrey

        and now:

        2009 – Jeff Francoeur

No diversity when it comes to Santa:)

How funny would it be for one of these little guys to hand back the toy Santa Frenchy gives him/her and says, ‘what I really want is the NL Pennant!’
