The Rockies and Torrealba are getting close to agreeing on a two-year deal, says ESPN.com.
…so, Brian Schneider got a two-year deal and Ivan Rodriguez got a two-year deal, so, it stands to reason Benjie Molina is not crazy to ask for a two-year deal as well… Rod Barajas and Jason Kendall will likely be offered one-year deals, like Henry Blanco and Greg Zuan… the thing is, again, if there is nobody else in the market place left for molina, it seems crazy to give him more than is necessary, especially if the Mets like barajas and are intrigued by Kelly Shoppach or Dioner Navarro…
…basically, it comes down to this: the Mets want molina, he wants the Mets, the Rangers and Royals still need a catcher, but will not give a two-year contract, so, who blinks first, who is willing to move on without the other… this is less about leverage, in terms of supply and demand, and now about making smart moves for the future and addressing true needs…
The Mets met with Torrealba’s agent yesterday, according to David Lennon of Newsday.
