According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Red Sox will send 3B Mike Lowell to the Rangers for C Max Ramirez.
Jon Heyman of SI.com says the Red Sox will pay roughly $9 million of the $12 million left on Lowell’s contract.
…un… real… so, basically, the Red Sox just purchased a catching prospect from the Rangers… and now they’re probably going to turn around and sign free-agent 3B Adrian Beltre to replace lowell… yes, i’m thinking the same thing, in that, i wonder if the Mets ever considered sending Luis Castillo in a similar deal…
Lowell hit .290 with a .337 OBP, 17 HR and 75 RBI in 119 games for Boston last season.
Meanwhile, Ramirez had just 10 hits in 17 games in a brief call up to the Rangers; he played most of the season at Triple-A, while dealing with a wrist injury.
Last off season, Baseball America ranked Ramirez the 84th prospect in baseball, out of 100, and 10th-best prospect in the Rangers minor-league system.
…ramirez is said to have the potential to be a home-run hitting catcher, who is decent behind the plate… the older get gets, the more people talk of him eventually being a DH or 1B…
