Buzz: Pirates reach out to Octavio Dotel
The Pirates have been in contact with free-agent relief pitcher Octavio Dotel, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Last September, Dotel told the Chicago Sun-Times that he’d like to return to New York, preferring to sign with the Mets, followed by the Yankees.
The 35–year-old Dotel was 7–7 with a 3.58 ERA in 133 appearances for the White Sox in the last two seasons, during which he struck out 166 hitters in 128 innings, while opponents hit .221 against him.
…from what i recall, the Mets had interest in dotel during the 2006 and 2007 off seasons, but only on a one-year, incentive-laden deal…
In 1999, the Mets sent Dotel to the Astros with Roger Cedeno for Mike Hampton and Derek Bell.
