According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, the D-Backs are still looking to trade C Chris Snyder.
Snyder, who hit 16 HR in 2008, but missed 100 games due to back surgery in 2009, will earn at least $11.5 million over the next two seasons, after which he can be made a free agent.
Gilbert says the D-Backs had a deal in place to send Snyder to Toronto in return for 1B Lyle Overbay, “but the Blue Jays backed out due to concerns about Snyder’s surgically repaired back.”
In early November, Joel Sherman of the New York Post said the Mets approached Arizona about swapping Snyder for 2B Luis Castillo, “but that initial foray proved unsuccessful.”
…there was a point there where the Mets were working hard to trade castillo, and also exploring the trade market for catchers, but i have a feeling that ship has sailed… from what i can tell, the only contract swap the Mets could realistically make for castillo would be for Gary Matthews Jr., and any team looking for a second baseman would sooner sign Felipe Lopez or Orlando Hudson, or one of the other free-agents begging for a job…
…as for catcher, i think it’s pretty clear at this point, the free-agent market is at a place where the Mets could probably get Rod Barajas or Bengie Molina on a deal they see as affordable… frankly, i’d rather Ryan Doumit or Dioner Navarro, but those guys will cost prospects, whereas molina and barajas will only cost cash, and so, for a team like the Mets who are trying to protect every minor leaguer they have, i can see why the free-agent catcher makes the most sense…

I like Molina a lot. I know he has a low OBP but he will help the Mets and their pitching rotation.
I would go Barajas on a short term deal and plan on Thole helping us in 2011. Molina’s lack of plate discipline and low OBP is a killer. Can you imagine having free swinging Frenchy and Molina then the pitcher. Also, depending on you view of Murphy, lack of plate discipline, in there as well. Just throw the ball low and away and they will all strike out every time.
put F-Core 6th, Molina 7th and Murphy 8th
Murphy needs to hit in the 2 spot. Put the useless castillo 8th
I don’t see any logic in this. Why waste Castillo’s OBP 8th?
I’d rather see castillo in any spot in the lineup!,…………ON ANOTHER TEAM!
So, you have two free swingers, Castillo who can’t hit a home run, and then the pitcher.
Castillo is used to take pitches so Reyes can steal and then move him over to 3rd. The Beltran will get a sac fly which creates the Reyes run. You need a patient #8 hitter. Murphy is that.
How is Barajas’ OBP any better? If the choice is Barajas or Molina, I’d rather have Molina.
But I’d rather have Snyder over those two.
WOW, A 3 YEAR DEAL FOR MARLON BYRD FROM THE CUBBIES!….YIKES,….You think they would have learned from Milton Bradley! lol
Marlon Byrd doesn’t have any issues or history of having a bad attitude. Not sure where you are going there.
3 years 15 milion for a guy who couldn’teven start in our outfield!,…..well maybe in ’09 he could! lol
.283 20hr 89rbi .800+ops? I’ll take that!
Yea, you watch what happens when he leaves Texas!
They still need a 2B who can get on base and the Mets happen the have Castillo!!
;-)
one can only hope….. Maybe that much rumored but poo poo’d Big Z deal will get a chance to happen.
I think Molina should probably hit 8th. Not that he sucks or anything but I picture the lineup going something like this:
Reyes
Castillo
Wright
Beltran
Bay
Delgado/Frenchy
Frenchy/Murphy
Molina
That would give the Mets some good L/R balance (S,S,R,S,R,L/R,R/L,R).
Agreed without Del-sucks-alot in there. He’d only play 100 games max. his body can’t take the pounding of the field every day. He’s a DH only at this point in his career, ala Frank Thomas
I propose the following deal to the White Sox. Fernando Martinez, Dillon Gee, Mike Pelfrey and Bobby Parnell for AJ Pierzynski and Mark Buerhle. Would you do the deal if you are the Mets? if White Sox?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
if i was the whitesox, i should be fired and then shot if i DIDNT accept that deal. thats waaaay too much for those 2.
You must be a a White Sox’s fan!
Why trade that much for a glorified backup catcher with a known attitude problem and poor work ethic and an ok, not dominate pitcher.
