I should have video of Jose Reyes, courtesy of SNY.TV, at some point in the next hour.
Original Post at 10:58 am:
Reyes worked out on Long Island today.
According to SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt, he did five sprints, 90 feet each, and looked ‘great.’
From what I can gather, Reyes ran at full speed without a limp.
“That’s how I do it,” Reyes said, upon finishing his sprints. “I’m ready to play baseball.”
To see footage of Reyes, who SNY mic’d during the workout, check out SNY’s Daily News Live at 5 pm, as well as SportsNite at 10 pm.

this is great news, looks like he’ll deffinitely be ready this season. I love his attitude and cant wait for a big year from reyes
Hell yes. Go git ‘em Jose!
We definitely need the Jose of old back. None of this nonsense about corralling his energy and swagger.
As long as he paces himself to remain strong over the course of the entire season.
Finally some fantastic news. IMO Reyes is and has been the life of the Mets. When Reyes doesn’t play, we lose a whole dynamic and it shows. I can’t wait to see Reyes back on the field!
Best post of the year so far.
straight up almost just cried reading that haha
Lol. I know what you mean.
Best news of the day! Reyes is the spark that makes the mets go, we need him!!!
Let’s go Mets 2010!!!
A-men…this is great news…lets go Mets..
My confidence meter has been flat lining lately. It just experienced a major blip. I healthy season from Jose would be HUGE!
Jose Reyes makes this team go. Great news.
From last Putz Article.
ENJOY THE DREAM LAND – – – -
Lets dream for a second, because reality in Mets land is scary. Just imagine:
Tom Seaver buys the Mets and hires Mike Piazza as the GM and Piazza hires Wally Backman as the Manager. Piazza looks like a business mogul as he stands in one of the suites surveying the team, like Tony Stark and his empire. He makes incredible trades and common sense free agent signings. He employs the most incredible medical staff, in fact a part time hospital opens out of the side of Citifield (sorry McFaddens). The Wilpons are seen selling programs at Dodgers stadium after having lost their fortune when they reinvested with a Madoff, this time his son, who cleans them out. Omar becomes a regular on Metsblog, not as a writer but as a fan and he posts his opinions, which are usually off the mark. Wally instills his hard nosed mentality, which makes its introduction to the league in the first Mets Philly game of the year. When Johan buzzes Victorino up and in, Shane charges the mound and Johan puts him to sleep with one clean shot to the jaw (with his right hand). Big Ryan Howard makes a run, but he’s form tackled at the hip by the Mets own Ike Davis . . . . wake up, your gonna be late for work, get to work, read Metsblog – NNNNNOoooooooooooo!!!!! haha
that was great…
Hope this isn’t like when Gary Carter was miked up in 1986 year to remember.
“Oh S**t, Mooooookie!”
“did it break the glass? it did. it broke the glass”
or something like that.
LOL- ha, I remember that. I think I rewound it on my vcr like 100 times.
“did it break the glass? did it break the gla… oh god it did”
hmm is he really ready?
or did the Mets tell him to say that
let him play a month and put him on Day to Day for the rest of the season?
can another team perform the physical on reyes please?
Are you serious?Did you not read that Burkhardt watched him run, said he looked great,no limp.Enjoy the good news.
at this point i cannot trust anybody on the Mets/sny staff until the season starts and they are playing 110%
i now question Bay’s “physical” as well…
“That’s how I do it.”
Lol. Jose is my guy.
A healthy Jose Reyes is equal to getting a starter with 10 -15 wins.
and also greatly increases the odds that i will watch all 162 games…
No question. I’d rather have Reyes than Lackey. And I wanted Lackey.
This is the best acquisition of the winter for the team.
I love it! I, especially, love the attitude (“That’s how I do it.”). I think for the Mets to get back to contention they not only need to stay healthy, but they need some attitude. The last three season have been an embarrassment in a number of ways. I want these guys playing with a chip on their shoulder. I want them to have attitude – like they expect nothing less than to kick @ss.
I like what I’m hearing from Reyes. I think Wright also is showing a bit more of an edge in his recent interviews. Murphy is looking like he’s zeroing in.
Also, don’t be surprised with what you’ll see from Bay. From all reports, the game is a game and a precense in the clubhouse that will help change the tone.
This is why I wish the Mets would’ve made a play for Hudson. His defense alone warrants him being signed and playing over Castillo, but it’s his attitude that I think could help just as much. This team needed some infusion of new attitude and professionalism. Bay will bring that. Hudson could also.
I’m in shock. Good new on the injury front concerning the Mets! I hope I’m not dreaming.
Seriously, this is the best news so far this off season.
I’d love to see Jose come back and steal 60 – 70 bases and just shock the media…
I wish we got Hudson too. I know he isnt the savior, but his D is better (which means our pitching gets better) and I like his attitude as well.
And I dont care what the “stat heads” say, attitude is contageous and is an intergral part of any team (sports, work, family, etc).
At the very least, hudson would help change the face of the line up.
This team has been lacking, some due to injury, intangibles such as this attitude and apparent drive. I like this coming back!
Lets play ball!!
I think some of these guys have a chip on their shoulders because of their injuries last year, Wright, Reyes, Maine, Sanatana etc.., last year left a horrible taste in their mouth,I think they will come out fighting this year.
Agreed, but they really need some productivity out of Pelf and Ollie if they’re going to be any good.
The one thing that has held back my optimism for this upcoming season had been the uncertainty of Jose Reyes. He can’t just “get by” on marginal speed. He’s entire game is dictated by his ability to run without fear. This is the best news I’ve heard in a month.
As an aside, I’m still nervous about Beltran. I’m not so sure he’s going to be back. I feel like he is microfracture surgery waiting to happen. I just don’t see him playing without cartilage.
My main concern with Hudson is that Torre basically benched him in favor of Belliard during last year’s stretch run. And, he’s 32. Maybe a 1 year deal. But, that’s it.
Do you see what this orginizaton has done to us? When I read this my initial thought was…..OMG, Reyes is going to try extra hard and run himself right into a permanent injury. The only reason that crossed my mind is because although I am trying to remain positive even with no pitching I still believe that because this team is mis-managed that they are ruining any opportunity to feel good about where this team is headed. They’ve had such bad luck that I can’t help but think that this is good for now, but bad later down the road.
A few things I am really excited about are whenever Santana is on the mound and watching Reyes everyday on the bases. Reyes is the most exciting player in baseball and I think after missing him last year, we will all have a new appreciation for him. Let’s Go Mets!!!
I really hope the Mets players come out p*ssed off at the world this year. I’ve been ridculously pessimistica all off-season, and probably will continue to be, until I see some signs of life. They need to play with a chip on their shoulder because they really do have something to prove in 2010.
I want this team to come out swinging, literally.
Its nice to have some good news on the injury front for once. This has been a very lackluster offseason and we go into 2010 full of more doubt than we have had in the previous years, and look how those turned out.
With so much negativity, its nice to have some positive news and some hopes for a good season.
Lets hope he continue to progress and gets back to the dynamic Reyes we have seen in the past.
Instead of
“Reyes ran at full speed without a limp”
I would like to read
“Reyes ran at full speed leaving a trail of smoldering grass behind him.”
But I’ll take it.
The Reds traded outfielder Willy Taveras and third baseman Adam Rosales to the Athletics today for infielder Aaron Miles and a player to be named later, tweets ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Wonder if we could shift Pagan over to the Reds for Arroyo or Harang?
Very possible…Hey Matt any insight to this?? Definitely opens a spot for the Reds in the OF. And it reopens F-Marts chances of making the team if he comes out firing during ST. Kinda late in the off-season for a big deal but you never know. Technically GMJr will be making less then Pagan after the arbitration hearing.
I think it’s possible the Mets have got a Pagan trade in mind for a pitcher, and that’s why they went and got Gary Matthews. Now I know Jr. sucks, but I think you’d have to trade Pagan in a package for Arroyo, much as I like Pagan. Harang? Meh.
I am feeling pretty optimistic except for our rotation. If we had a 200+ inning guy rather than a question mark in the #5 hole, I would feel so much better. We had 70 wins last season, now considering some WAR stats:
A healthy reyes gives us +5 from last season
david wright hopefully halfway to his old seasons gives us about +3
Beltran comes back in may and is healthy gives us +2
Bay gives us +3 over our Left fielders last season
A healthy Santana should improve on his own WAR by about +2
These are really the guys we can hopefully count on to provide those numbers, which puts us at a 85 win team. If any of these guys are injured for an extended period of time we are pretty much screwed. Now in terms of whether we actually are better than a 85 win team will depend entirely on the performance of guys like Pelfrey, Ollie, Maine, Franceour, Murphy, and our bullpen. For example, in his best seasons Franceour had a war of 3.6, if he can come close to matching that it would be a huge boost for us.
Just as a reference, if pelfrey, maine and perez all improve to their 2008 numbers, then they will provide about 4-5 extra wins, and the old franceour and somewhat better murphy can give us about 4 extra wins. That improves us to a 93 wins which is probably our peak if everything goes right. Our 5th starter is pretty much replacement level (This is where we can make a big improvement by getting someone with 200+ innings).
Assuming this team stays relatively healthy and we make no roster changes over the course of the season, I am expecting about 85 wins with a upside of 93 wins.
Hip hip!
Jose!
I could visualize Jose with his big smile excitingly saying, “that’s how I do it BRO!”.
haha i just smiled reading this
I think a healthy Reyes back is going to have a bigger impact on the Mets then some fans and most so called baseball experts (i.e. Mike Francessa) think. I mean it has been proven over the last few years just how valuable he is. When he plays good the Mets win, when he does not play or is not playing well, the Mets struggle. You can’t say that about a bunch of players in this league (i.e. Jimmy Rollins struggles Phillies still win, even when Wright Struggles he had Beltran and Delgado in the lineup to pick him up). I miss watching him play, can’t wait to see him back.
A Healthy Jose is HUGE for this team !!
I agree, best post of the new year. Run, Jose, Run!!!

best SS when healthy….
…not just offense but defense and speed makes him the best…..I would take hanley’s offense but reyes’s defense is better and seed which makes him the best all around player…..rollins is inconsistent and I hate the phillies
yeah rollins is very inconsistent especially offensively and Hanely hits for more power def. but he’s a tool.
I’ll take Reyes over any of them
Boy, now I’m just looking forward to seeing this video!
You know i just noticed this last night but if you play till 2011 in franchise mode in MLB 2009 when Reyes becomes a free agent he’s listed as the best player in the game. (based on the amount of money it required me to re-sign him, i.e. max)
Yeah he goes crazy on MLB 2K8. Hits like 600 homers (as does Wright), steals bases like a maniac and hits for .350 career or something when he gets inducted into the Hall of Fame immediately on retirement (such a poor game). Although when I’m not playing with the Mets, he does tend to leave for Boston in FA :¬. If that were to ever happen (the going to Boston part) I think I’d cry
Yea same thing in MLB 09…lol
without question the most important player for the Mets to go right, I think other people have said it above but it bares repeating, The Mets go as Jose Reyes does, they need him to be his old self. Very good news to hear he is doing well
where is this videooo? come on
i have always wanted to know what the mets record is when reyes gets 2 or more hits in a game. or when reyes scores a run in a game. i bet its pretty good.
anyways he is the spark plug to this team no doubt. i cant stand ppl who say that we should trade him (for halladay) or anyone. he makes this team go. big year from reyes in 2010!!!!
Would be great to see Jose playing again. He really does bring a great energy to the team. GL Jose, may the force be with you..:)
He is like gasoline in the engine. He makes the Mets go….so lets go already. We have all had enough heartache the last 2 years and deserve some positive news and a healthy Jose….
As much as I dont like the Jose, Jose, Jose chant, I did miss it when he went down and was out much of the year.
We need his energy to get the team rolling.
This is good newss!!! Reyes gonna hit 30 triples in citi fieldd!!!
