eMailbag: Is there a McFadden’s at Citi Field

By Matthew Cerrone on Feb 04, 2010, 3:22 pm

Tom G: You keep mentioning this McFadden’s bar at Citi Field.  What does that mean?

Matthew Cerrone: McFadden’s has started construction on a bar that will be acceesable from the inside and outside of Citi Field, located on the corner beyond center field, off 126th Street… it’s the gigantic space that was unoccupied for much of last season.  I was told it will be ‘non-private,’ which I guess means it doesn’t matter what ticket you have, you’re allowed in.  They’ll have more than 100 HD televisions; a large menu, with burgers, buffalo wings, fish and chips, etc.; and they plan to do pre-game events, with bands, celebrities, and fans.  I think it will be interesting, and I expect it to be a pretty cool meet-up before games.

This is the first comments ive read all day so I dont know if anyone has hit on it yet, but I just bought a six pack of tickets for this year. I thought they werent going to issue those this year? Also do we get the option to buy playoff tickets if they make it? Haha I know… Im just wondering

        Just found it:

Terms and Conditions – Mets Six-Game Packs have no guaranteed postseason ticket purchase option. Seating locations are subject to availability, and are not “renewable” from year to year. Team player rosters are subject to change, and team lineups are not guaranteed. Game times and promotions are subject to change. Six-Game Pack tickets are not refundable or exchangeable.

Pretty sure the 15-seat plans also have no “guaranteed” postseason option, but even if they don’t, the Mets have always given postseason seats to ticket plan holders in the past. Each time I had a 6 or 7 pack, they ended up rewarding the loyalty (not the same seat, though). On the other hand, I’m not sure you can expect the same treatment for a 6-pack this year, now that they have 15-packs. But it’s all entirely moot anyway, since this team isn’t going to the playoffs without one or two major roster moves.

Beer! I want to know about the Beer!

I suspect it’ll be the normal crap, nothing special, just generic no-thought bar food and drinks…still cool, but I’d love for them to rotate experimental and local craft brews in and out.

There’s always Big Apple Brews out in the food court area. They have a wide selection of beer beverages.

True, but no HD tvs to watch the earlier baseball games on or anything.

but I love Big Apple Brews and the 4 Brooklyn taps in that area.

    … Are you kidding me?

McFadden’s is a Philly bar. There is a bar called McFadden’s in Citizens Bank Park.

Why do the Mets hate us so much?

I guess Chase Utley didn’t feel enough at home at CitiField; they felt like he needed all the little conveniences of Philadelphia.

McFaddons is a chain. They have locations all around the country including NYC.
          McFadden’s Ballpark McFadden’s Boston McFadden’s Chicago McFadden’s Columbus McFadden’s DC McFadden’s Glendale McFadden’s NYC McFadden’s Philadelphia McFadden’s Pittsburgh McFadden’s Vegas McFadden’s Worcester McFadden’s Nashville Calico Jack’s NYC Calico Jack’s Pittsburgh Sully’s Saloon Tavern on Broad Maker’s Lounge Burke’s Bar Turtle Bay MJ Armstrong’s McFadden’s Rockville Centre

It would be like putting a Dave and Busters in the stadium.. no Big Deal.. Sounds like it will actually be a cool place to pregame.

Actually McFadden’s is an original NYC restaurant/bar that became franchised. (Philadelphia is getting a shake shack in the near future too)

Oh, terrific, that’s even better. It’s not like we have a stadium made by the same guys who make all the other stadiums or anything; now we need a bunch of franchises that other teams have at their stadiums.

Hot dogs? OMG! The Dodgers serve hot dogs! Dodger loving joke of an owner!

Listen. I haven’t been down on CitiField like most other people. I think it’s alright. But I can do without the reminders that, once you get inside, it’s practically a carbon copy of Citizens Bank Park in the first place, before they even start adding things like the same exact bar that they have at Citizens Bank Park. What, there’s not a single prominent New York bar that would open a second location at CitiField? Don’t believe it for a minute.

          Feb 04, 2010, 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm #

I know! Can you believe they used RED BRICK to build CitiField??? My God, that’s the same color of CITIZENS BANK PARK.

I am all for it…however, since the phillies have a mcfaddens at citizens bank park, couldnt they of at least called it something else?

However, as long as the beer is cold and gold, I will be all set.

      • mark4212
        Feb 04, 2010, 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm #

It’s a NYC original Bar. Which originated in NYC.

Kind of like TGI Fridays… Just because it’s in philly or the philly stadium doesn’t mean a thing.

      Feb 04, 2010, 3:52 pm at 3:52 pm #

As am I. I orginally thought LF where the ramps are, but I think it’s literally going to be like under the Taste of New York/shake shack food court area. In the building that’s Cascarino’s/Verizon studio?

My guess is it’ll be accessable via the bullpen courtyard area?

According to McFadden’s main website, they were established in NYC in 1977. OMG they’re putting a NYC bar into Citi Field. It’s pathetic how much people complain on this site.

McFadden’s started in New York. Will it be open to public (meaning, will people be able to access it, even if there’s no game or if they don’t have a ticket to the game)? That’s how it is in philly and it’s awesome.

    Feb 04, 2010, 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm #

if you can access this bar without a ticket it should be pretty cool for those who don’t feel like shelling out 50 bucks to sit in the upperdeck with obstructed views of an uninspiring team.

    • Ceetar

I would imagine on Gameday that you would need a ticket… Similar to Citizen’s Bank Park…

        Feb 04, 2010, 4:18 pm at 4:18 pm #

You probably also need to wear a Phillie/Eagle Jersey to get in.

  12. fortleemets
    Feb 04, 2010, 4:24 pm at 4:24 pm #

In Philly, as I remember, you don’t need a ticket, even on gameday. You enter through the front like a normal restaurant. You can exit through the back, which exits into the statdium — that’s where your tickets are taken. The citifield one better have an outside area also…that’s the best part of the Philly McFadden’s.

This is GREAT. I no longer have to drink beers at a bar in the city after work and then hold in my pee for the entire 7 train trip. Now I can just leave work, hop on the train and meet my friends at mcFaddens. Brilliant. ABOUT TIME! Thats one of the reasons why Fenway, D.C., Philly, Baltimore, heck even Yankee Stadium are cool.

That’s a long ride to hold in pee, especially when they (frequently) run all trains as locals. I prefer to buy a couple of 40s and an empty cup at the deli near my office and have a car-less tailgate party. I usually go to the Roosevelt lot and sit on the base of the supports holding up the LIRR boardwalk.

When does CitiField open the gates on game night? (I’m always running in last minute). This would be a nice meet-up place, but I’d rather have an IPA outside in the food rotunda thingy before the game on a nice evening if that’s an option.

I liked the Ceasar’s Club, and the right field section with the sweet beer garden and food options… Now with more Met stuff, the HOF museum, around and this bar, Citifield is just getting better. It will slowly turn into “home,” even though Shea will always have a place in our hearts

ummmm no. the area around shea/citi has been in dire need of bar since forever. like i said above, thats the reason its cool to go to philly, wrigley, dc, baltimore, yankee stadium, and fenway. people actually have FUN before games.
