Its at the expense of a starting pitcher, but one that probably cannot help at the big league level in 2010 if ever. So its a good depth move.

He would have to pass through waivers first to be outrighted to the minors. But they don’t need to do that anytime soon as he seems to have another option year left, they don’t seem to be in a hurry to sign more big league players, and he might just make the team if some unforeseen things happen.

I don’t think you can really hate this move, especially after last season. Yeah the starting rotation doesn’t have any depth at all, in fact they really don’t even have a 5th starter. But Omar is really adding some depth to the position players which is nice to see.

When the Rays added Pridie to their 40 man roster in November of 2007 they put Brian Stokes on waivers allowing Omar to claim him.

677 OPS at age 25 at AAA isn’t that good, ditto the 2008 OPS. I agree it is not the only measure; but they’re both pretty low. They’re driven by what appears to be his insistence to never take a walk. He does strike out. Neither appears to be correcting. I’ll take your word on his defense and he does appear to have some speed.

My concern with his 2007 AAA stat line is that it is far from the others. You have, beginning in 2003, OPSs of: 693, 797, 675, 585, 772 (2007 AA), 740, and 677. The 914 at 2007 AAA is the outlier. He does like his triples though.

Contrary to what I assume is popular opinion I wish him well. He does offer some things that GMjr doesn’t: speed and defense. I’d prefer Pridie over GMj if GMj flat out reeks in ST. I’m not sure about the others competing, but this guy does bring some useful skills (PH, PR, D)

Two things in life are certain these days:

1.The Mets will be crapped on publicly by all media outlets because it is so the “in” thing right now.

2. Any post by Sylow will contain both “bad” and “OPS”.

Really, just relax and put the calculator away. It would be much less stressful. I think it’s a solid pickup for the minors and provides…..what’s that word…..oh yeah, depth.

Well I disagree. A .270 AVG with 21 2Bs, 16 3Bs!, 13 HRs and 25 stolen bases in 138 games to go along with a big league call-up isn’t bad. The only knock was he struck out too many times. C’mon Sylow, you’re a smart guy so you know OBP is not the only measure of ability.

In the 2008 issue of Baseball America, Jason Pridie was the Twins 7th best prospect. He was also rated as the Twins best defensive outfielder, ahead of Aaron Hicks who is their best prospect.

I’d agree that 2009 was not good, but thats precisely why we have a chance to get a guy like this. Lets hope it was 2009 that was the fluke, and not 2007 as you say.
