Buzz: Mets have not Contacted Gary Sheffield

According to George King of the New York Post, free-agent OF Gary Sheffield said the Mets have not contacted him this off season, though he’s in ‘tip-top shape.’

He hit .276 with a .372 OBP, 10 HR, 43 RBI and two stolen bases in 100 games for the Mets last season.

…he really wasn’t that bad, all things considered… but, he has no place on the 2010 team, and i’m glad to hear the Mets agree… i wish him the best of luck, though…

Sheffield says he has ‘things on the table,’ and is weighing his options.

…the word in baseball is that he, and other out-of-work DHs, could end up killing time in an Independent League, keeping in shape and showing they can still play, while waiting for work… i’m sure that will go over real well with sheff…
