Following today’s intrasquad game, Jerry Manuel told reporters Johan Santana’s first start of the spring will probably be March 9.
During today’s game, Jose Reyes hit a two-run triple on the first pitch, of his first at bat.
To hear audio of Reyes’s post-game comments, go to Brian Costa’s blog for the Star-Ledger.
According to SNY producer Matt Dunn, Reyes said was not running full speed on the triple, and so he is encouraged because it means he has ‘more speed in the tank,’ so to speak.
Manuel jokingly said Jason Bay did not start today because he needed to rest after celebrating Canada’s Gold Medal in Hockey, so Bay will start tomorrow instead.
The following are photographs I took during today’s game.
Here, Mike Jacobs waits on deck to hit, notice his name stitched on his glove:
Here, Jenrry Mejia pitches to Ike Davis:
Here, Manuel asked to speak with Mejia, at the end of the inning:

Having now been to Port st lucie last year, all these pictures make me miss baseball even more.
No worries…opening day is around the corner Ceetar. Maybe all us Metbloggers can share a beer before the game.
Check out metspolice’s Blue Cap Army actuall..
Good call Ceetar. Hopefully I will see you then.
As much as we bicker and discuss the various issues the team has had the past three years…all is forgiven or forgotten for @ least the first day of the season…
After all we are now in first place in the division (may not last very long, but i’ll take what good news I get get right now…) Almost feel like the first 45 minutes of Major League around here.
LGM..LGM..LGM..
Is that a bat boy with Strawberry?
Straw looks like he could still play.
