News: Jose Reyes scratched from Lineup

By Matthew Cerrone on Mar 04, 2010, 8:34 am

4399233286_36e662d41fThe initial lineup today had Jose Reyes hitting third.  However, he has since been replaced by Ruben Tejada, who will play shortstop and hit ninth.

he’s walking around fine in the locker room… or, at least he looks like he has since he’s been here… so, who knows… hopefully, this is no big deal… but, forgive me if i am a bit paranoid the word from the team is that he needs to go to the doctor to complete his physical… i’m sure that is true, but forgive me for being paranoid when hearing reyes and doctor in the same sentence…

Gary Matthews Jr. will instead bat leadoff today, followed in order by Luis Castillo, David Wright, Jason Bay, Daniel Murphy, Jeff Francoeur, Fernando Tatis, Henry Blanco and Tejada.

R.A. Dickey and his knuckleball will be today’s starting pitcher, with Jenrry Mejia set to pitch in relief.

Today’s game will air on SNY at 1 pm.

Updated at 8:42 am:

Steve Popper of the Bergen Record says on Twitter that Reyes must visit the doctor for a second round of bloodwork, in regards to an undisclosed question that surfaced in his physical.

Updated at 9:04 am:

“I’m fine,” Reyes told Adam Rubin of the Daily News. “Nothing serious.”

Uh what? Ok take a deep breath and wait for details.

Has anyone heard of anything like this. To miss the, albeit, unimportant spring traiing game for blood work. Something’s up. FBI?

Sorry, it is not paranoid at this point to visibly flinch whenever ANY Met is mentioned in the same sentence as Doctor. Never mind one as important as Reyes and all he went through last year. Ugh, I dont want to think about it…

Follow up lab work on a physical? It worries me a bit that something went wrong with his physical but just speculating. Hopefully nothing comes of it.

Hopefully both Reyes and Big Pelf are fine, but it is a bit concerning, all we can do is wait for them to get clean bills of health,

Remember when Reyes was “day to day” back in May?

guys…guys…it can be any assortment of things…any number of blood tests can come back undefined and they usually have to run them again…

it can also be a follow up from the fbi bc reyes did mention galea took out blood and put it back in…who knows…but ease up on the steering wheel..no need to white knuckle right now.

In positive news, Takahashi got his visa issue fixed and coming back to Mets camp. I know sometimes those things can linger a bit, good thing for Takahashi it wasn’t too long.

“I’m fine,” Reyes told Adam Rubin of the Daily News. “Nothing serious.”

Does that mean that there is something bothering him? Man, with the Mets you can never tell whats up.

Your telling me that Reyes only could get an appt during his first scheduled SP game? Come on….this has Mets secrecy and stupidity written all over it.

For those of you paranoid about the FBI and HGH … they didn’t test for HGH in his first blood test.

    Maybe he is pregnant? :-)

Per the collective bargaining agreement, the cannot test him for HGH.

Probably something that came up that is just a red flag. Could be anything from low White blood cells, to high cholesterol.

The players overall health is more important then him playing in a spring training game.

Right … something was wrong or inconclusive in his first test … and HGH was not part of the test (as you said, because it can’t be per the cba)

Doesn’t “nothing serious” imply that there is something wrong, just not serious?

Just because a person in paranoid, it doesn’t mean that people are not out to get him :-)

Let’s wait a day or two before we get too worried. If this is bad news, there is plenty of time to get out on a window ledge.

Something is rotten in Denmark. You don’t scratch a guy on the way back from a very shortened year so he can have some blood drawn. Makes no sense.

Maybe the FBI has ordered a blood test per their own investigation. I don’t think the players union can do anything to prevent that. Let’s all hope that this all to do about nothing.

If anything worries me, right now it’s K-Rod’s eye. I’m seeing he arrived to Mets camp with a blood shot eye, which seems like a more serious form of pink eye. I think if anything he should get that checked out.

K rod has the longest bout of pink eye in the history of man. I have had it several times as have my kids and after the drops are put in, 48 hours later its virtually gone…..but then again, I have good doctors…not sure the same can be said about the mets.

On one of the other treads, someone provided a link about pink eye and differentiated between bacterial and viral pink eye. (My apologies to whoever posted it ,,, I would have give you credit if I remembered who you were).

One type can be treated quickly … the other cannot and only “time” will heal it.

As for you and your kids having it several times … dude, wash you hands.

(Just kidding … I had it once in my life and got it when my son went to kindergarden … so I know I can spread quickly)

So basically, Reyes is day to day. The last time Reyes was day to day, well need I say more?
