- Johan Santana pitched 1.2 innings, allowing six hits and four runs, while walking one. He was up in the zone a lot, but his fastball was in the low 90s.
- Clint Everts, Travis Blackley, Elmer Dessens and Sean Green each pitched a scoreless inning.
- Gary Matthews Jr. had three hits, scored two runs, and is batting .429 this spring.
- Ike Davis hit a solo home run to dead center field. He’s batting .524.
“I felt good because I was able to throw all of my pitches,” Johan Santana told reporters. “I was a little bit off with my mechanics, releasing the ball… The good thing is I felt good.”

The Mets travel to Disney World to play the Braves tomorrow at 1 pm.

… From what I can gather … This was Santana’s first real outing this spring. He will be fine and the fact he’s tossing around 92mph is a great sign!
pretty much. You can’t take anything from the first outing of the year.
As has been posted 100 times, Tim Lincecum has an 18 ERA right now.
Its early in spring. Let the performances shake out.
Does the same hold true for Ollie Perez the other day?
Depends on how much of an optimist you are.
Funny, when OP pitched this bad people were giving the job to Takahashi.
Anyone know how that Strausburg has been doing this spring?

First outting as well.
Is it time to admit that for $1.25 million Gary Matthews could at least prove to be a useful bench player, who can catch the ball in the outfield??
After all the hysteria, when the trade was made, can anyone step forward and at least say, “Maybe I over-reacted to what was really a non-event”?
Over-reaction is the only response some people on this board have. Don’t deprive them of their masochistic joy with your rational analysis.
Nice. Overreacting (good or bad)=Mets fan.
Maybe he went to see Dr. Galea recently?
Either way if he keeps playing like this, i would like to see him as our starting CF.
We could always be west coast fans and have no reaction.
Ha!
Ike Davis. What is up, buddy?
Hey, Matt – no ‘honorable mention’ for Mr Thole at the plate today?!
2 for 2 – both for extra bases! Even Ralph Kiner acknowledged him.
Good to finally see a catcher in the organization with a decent bat!
Ike Davis
Josh Thole
Jennry Mejia
Fernando Martinez
Kirk Nieuwenhuis
Ruben Tejada
Wilmer Flores
etc. etc.
Perhaps the characterization of the Mets minor league system as being in demise is not quite accurate…
I was thinking the same thing.
Maybe it is time to give Omar at least SOME credit for not trading away prospects for one player? I have been saying for about a year now, we are starting to see the guys he drafted and signed make it up to the high minors and big leagues. Some just take longer to develop, that’s all.
Our farm system is nowhere near as bad as people think it is. It’s not awesome, but there is definitely a good amount of potential.
D Wright is hitting really good. Thats huge if he could put up numbers like how he did before last year. Lets’s Go Mets!
I definitely don’t think it’s a stretch to expect Davis to match Murphy’s numbers from last year. Seriously, let this kid play.
Too bad he is making so many Errors (his strength) at 1B. If he would have shown the glove too, the story could have been different.
In the mean time, I expect him to go to AA, but won’t be surprise if he starts at AAA.
Ike has looked amazing, but people are forgetting its only spring training. Murphy tore it up last spring and from may-june he was rather horrid. Right now Ike is facing a lot of minor leaguers; lets see what he can do against legit ML pitching.
i am anxious to hear about reyes… any updates yet???
I’m surprise about the comments in this post. Did anybody watch Santana’s final line?
1.2ip, 6h, 4r, 1bb, 1so!!!
The season is clearly over guys!! And please don’t tell me that he threw strikes today. Let’s start talking football!!! LOL!!
