that sox lineup looks nasty as it is, and it’s not even including ellsbury, beltre and youk… ridiculous.

I said the same thing looking at their 3 in the OF today. Wowza.

I think the Sox have taken a step back in terms of offense this year. Mike Cameron is nowhere near what Jason Bay is, and Adrian Beltre may be the biggest question mark of all offensive players this season after he hit just .265 with 8 HR last season. It’s going to be very tough for them to replace the production of Bay and Lowell, and not to mention Ortiz is one year older.

They still have a very dangerous top of the order with Ellsbury, Pedroia, Youkilis, Martinez, and Drew, though…they just don’t have much after that. I don’t see their offseason as a good one…they overpaid for Lackey, and they brought in has-beens to replace Bay and Lowell. They have to hope for a collapse from the Yankees in order to even have a chance this season.

No lineup is picture perfect I think more than half have holes in their lineup. They might of overpaid for Lackey but to compete with the Yankees I think they had to.

They had to, yes, but my point is that replacing Bay with Cameron was a HUGE mistake. However, I’m not complaining because we have yet another All Star on our team.

I have to say that I am getting very pumped up about some of the young guys on the Mets. Davis looks really good at the plate and just needs some more work with the glove. F-Mart is hot at the plate and the Mets should start sticking him in CF more as a possible replacement for Beltran while he is out. Mejia is making everyone look bad. And Chris Carter is tremendous. I know he only has 8 AB’s but he has 5 hits and 3 HR’s in those 8AB’s.
Its still early and all those young guys might come back to earth real soon as the pitchers start heating up and letting loose but as of right now they are really fun to watch.

Remember back to the the Dallas Green era? Jody Reed hit about 6 or 7 HR’s that spring.

So let’s not classify Carter with the top prospects Davis, F-Mart, etc.

He is off to a great start this spring. But he’s played a few seasons at AAA, right? I think that’s enough of a track record to know what he is … and what he is not.

I know we WANT him to be better because we traded Wagner to get him. But … let’s take a reality check

But he was also blocked by youk, ortiz, lowell, etc in Boston. You have to figure that in there too.

I’m a big murphy fan, but if he falters this season I think Carter is the first one in line to play 1st. Let Davis continue to progress (and hit lefties) in AA/AAA and then bring him up when he is ready.

who knows, maybe frenchy reverts back to a .250 hitter and you put carter in RF?

        Good problem to have IMO

If you read what I wrote you would have read that I know its still early and all those guys(Carter) might come back to earth when the pitchers start heating up and letting loose.
Now if they don’t come back to earth than all that we do and don’t know on this guy doesn’t matter(from past years). All that you would need to know is what he is doing for them now. The last time I checked there are players every year that have breakout career years or comeback years. Its where the saying “lighting in a bottle” comes from.
