Read: about Jeff Francoeur’s Arm in Right Field

In a report for MLB.com, Marty Noble talks to Jeff Francoeur about the right fielder’s arm, which has thrown out 70 base runners in the last five years, most in baseball.

“I think I have a pretty good rep now,” Francoeur tells Noble.  “I see some times when I’m sure a guy’s going, and he gets held or they don’t send a guy when there’s a fly ball.  And yeah, I have seen some times when a guy on second just slows down as he gets to third.  He doesn’t make a hard turn.  I’d like to think that’s because of my arm.  I’m getting fewer chances now.”

…it’s an interesting point… i tend to think of fielding and hitting… i forget the little things that keep a runner from advancing, maybe keeping a double play in tact, or reducing the chance of a sac-fly RBI… but, these are things the Mets will have to do to win this season… they do not have enough talent in the rotation to get by on strike outs and pure talent… the ball will be in play…

…this is why, if Jose Reyes will be out long term, Alex Cora or Cristain Guzman will not be the answer, because the downgrade on defense, coupled with Luis Castillo, will be putting the team’s pitchers in a terrible position… and so, an asset like frenchy’s arm, or Angel Pagan’s range, will be more important than i think
