John Maine started for the Mets this afternoon and he had a nice rebound effort, allowing just two runs and two hits in four innings, thanks to a Colby Rasmus two run home run in the first inning.
The Mets were trailing 5-0 through six innings as both Pat Misch and Francisco Rodriguez turned in uneven efforts this afternoon – Misch allowed a run to the Cardinals in the bottom of the fifth and Rodriguez allowed two runs in the sixth inning.
However, in the top of the seventh, the Mets got on the board thanks to a leadoff double by Fernando Martinez, and Alex Cora followed with a double to advance Martinez to third, and then Chris Coste grounded out to score Martinez to make it 5-1 in favor of the Cardinals.
The Mets would get an RBI double from Frank Catalanotto to score Cora in the seventh, but the Mets bats came alive with three runs in the ninth, thanks to another RBI from Catalanotto, a passed ball by Matt Pagnozzi to score Jason Pridie, and then a solo home run from Ike Davis to tie things at five a piece.
However, in the bottom of the ninth, former Met Ruben Gotay hit a solo home run off of Kiko Calero to give the Cardinals a 6-5 victory.
