Read: Johan Santana Believes in the Mets
Steve Popper, in a report in today’s Bergen Record, says Johan Santana is confident in the Mets chances this year and feels the Mets will be a contender in 2010, telling Popper:
“…We have to be very positive about the things that we can do…They built this team to win and we know what we can do. But again, we’ve got to stay on the field, because that was the case for us last year. We weren’t able to stay on the field and the whole thing changed. But right now we feel pretty good and we’ll see once the season starts where we end up.”
…even with the question marks in the rotation, the key to this season is staying healthy, and when injuries do occur, and we know they will, they are managed both by the players and the organization properly and the right decisions are made to ensure players return as quickly as possible…
According to Popper, Santana believes John Maine, Mike Pelfrey, and Oliver Perez all look and feel good right now, saying “That’s something that we need to have. Healthy guys and that’s what we’re working on right now.”
…i was very impressed with Mike Pelfrey’s last outing, and most importantly, he seemed pleased and sounded confident…i worry about John Maine because sometimes, based on what he says, i’m not sure he he has confidence in himself and his abilities, which i think can be the worst thing for any player…i think today’s start against the Cardinals will be big for him, and hopefully, he is a little more ‘into it’ than he was during his last outing, considering he is starting, and can go through whatever routine he needs in order to prepare…
