Note: Sean Green and his Big Toe
In yesterday’s 6-5 loss to the Cardinals, Sean Green pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing just a walk to Joe Mather.
However, according to Marty Noble of MLB.com, Green revealed he had rubbed the skin from his right big toe off during his outing, and he was bleeding considerably and the skin was hanging off of the toe.
According to Noble, Green typically wears two pair of socks to add a layer of protection to his right toe when he pushes off from it, but yesterday, he didn’t wear that second pair of socks.
…i don’t know what the extent of this is, or whether this will keep him out of action or not, but i hope he’s ok, as i’m sure its quite painful even when he walks normally on it…i wonder if his new delivery is impacting the force against his right toe even more when he pushes off the mound, and combining that with his mixed results this Spring, i wonder if he’s going to keep his more pronounced submarine delivery when the season starts…
In six relief appearances this Spring, Green has allowed five runs, three earned, on five hits with seven walks and four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
