Video: My Tour of the Minor League Complex in PSL
In my final few days at Tradition Field in early March, I got a tour of the minor league complex from Adam Wogan, Mets Director of Minor League Operations.
Wogan is a nice guy, who is very proud of the team’s young players. In fact, he speaks of them in much the same way a proud father would talk about his children. I get the impression Wogan sees himself as a person helping to shape these young kids in to a men, capable of adjusting to big league life; just as much as I think he sees himself as a person trying to harvest talent to win – and that’s a good thing.
I forget, but, in most cases, these prospects are just kids – away from home for the first time in their lives. In some cases, there thousands of miles from home, in another country, with no idea how to cook, do laundry, or take care of themselves, all while trying to work on plate discipline and understand why they should hit behind a runner. They can handle it, of course, but they need guidance, just like any one else.
In our time at the complex, I talked to at length with Wogan, who showed me the complex, gave me reports on specific prospects; of whom I got lots of video; and I talked with players and coaches, including Wally Backman.
SNY.TV will be rolling out video from my tour, starting with this one, here, which includes part of my talk with Wogan, and video of the minor-league complex, including the team’s locker room, mess hall, batting cages, and workout facility, as well as the conference room, where players were getting ready to talk with Josh Thole and Daniel Murphy as part of the system’s STEP program.
