Read: Law on Mejia, Rally to Protest Call Up
In a post to his blog for ESPN.com, Keith Law looks at the seven position battles in MLB, including who will win be the set-up man to Francisco Rodriguez.
In regards to Jenrry Mejia making the jump to the bullpen, for Opening Day, Law writes:
“I hate it. He’s a raw, high-upside arm with the weapons to be a starter in the long term, if he’s given time to improve his command and consistency on his change and curve. Instead they’re cutting off that upside for a quick fix in the pen. By the way, promoting prospects who aren’t ready is a hallmark of GMs in fear for their jobs.”
…SNY’s Ted Berg made a great point on his blog, TedQuarters, the other day, when he pointed out that he, i, most every fan, and more or less every minor league expert, all think mejia should stay in Double-A and continue to see if he can be a dominant starting pitcher… meanwhile, the team, and the reporters who cover them every day, feel mejia should be in the bullpen… that’s a pretty massive divide…
In a post to Amazin Avenue, Sam Page does a terrific job arguing with Steve Popper of the Bergen Record, based on a conversation from Twitter, regarding whether Mejia should be in the bullpen on Opening Day.
In an effort to help out opinions, Toby Hyde of Mets Minor League Blog takes a look at each batter Mejia has faced this Spring.
By the way, a group of Mets fans on Facebook are staging a rally at SNY for Friday, March 26, to occur during the network’s SportsNite, in protest of promoting Mejia.
