Read: about Jerry Manuel and His Fate
In a report for the Daily News, Bill Madden lists Jerry Manuel among his “endangered manager’s list”, which also includes Orioles Manager Dave Trembley, Brewers manager Ken Macha, Rangers manager Ron Washington, and Royals manager Trey Hillman.
Madden believes his fate lies in the performance of the starting rotation, which Madden says “there was nothing about the performances of the Mets’ all-important 2-4 starters to suggest that manager Jerry Manuel’s rotation this year isn’t going to be Johan Santana and a minefield.”
…i think it’s a fair point, although to be fair, his general manager didn’t go out and try and improve the rotation this winter, so i have to think there will be other factors as well which determine Manuel’s fate…look, the bottom line is if the team struggles, and if it struggles badly, it is undoubtedly time for a change, but to be fair to the whole situation, the changes must occur from the top of management, all the way down…Manuel can’t be expected to win if he has been given a bad hand, and only time will tell how good his hand is…
…at this point, i’m going to stay optimistic, until i have a reason to be disappointed, but i don’t think it’s fair, as a fan, to go into opening day, before anyone has had a meaningful at bat or thrown a meaningful pitch, to throw in the towel…
