Quote: Jerry on Maine’s Spot in the Rotation
Following tonight’s game, Jerry Manuel was asked if John Maine’s spot in the rotation is in jeopardy, to which he said:
“Well, I think those things we’ll have to talk about. I think right now, right after this game, you know, you have to sleep on that and see how you feel tomorrow and hopefully he feels OK. But, you have to have dialogue about it. That’s just the business that we’re in.”
…i can’t imagine the Mets will bump him totally from the rotation… it’s too early for that, and john has earned the right to dig himself out of this… but a) i like that jerry said this in public, to plant a seed in maine’s head, and b), like i said in the post-game post, maine’s spot could be the slot to be skipped, for now, once, to get Johan Santana back to throwing every fifth day from this point forward…
