Note: on Ike Davis’ First Career Home Run
Last night, Ike Davis hit a game tying, solo home run off of Kenshin Kawakami in the fifth inning, which tied the game at 1-1.
Davis home run reached the base of the Shea Bridge in the right-centerfield gap, and was estimated at 450 feet.
Over his first five games, Davis is hitting .389 with five singles, a double, a home run and two RBI, with two walks and four strikeouts, and is 4 for 6 against left handed pitching.
Regarding the home run, Davis told reporters:
“I haven’t really squared up too many balls since I’ve been up here…I’m hitting soft line drives. That’s the first time I’ve squared up a ball, and it felt really good.”
…earlier this week, Ron Davis, Ike’s father, said Ike was like former Met John Olerud, but Olerud never hit home runs like that…in fact, if i recall, the only other player so far to reach the Shea Bridge is Adam Dunn…what i’ve liked about Davis so far is the fact he looks so calm and professional out there, and he just appears to know what he’s doing in any given moment…i expect rookie mistakes to come, but so far, he has been everything the Mets could’ve possibly asked for when they called him up…
