The Least You Should Know:

  • Johan Santana started for the Mets today, and he pitched better than his line would indicate, going 7 2/3 innings and allowing four runs and eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts, but both Fernando Nieve and Pedro Feliciano couldn’t get the third out in the eighth inning without allowing the tying run to score, but Jenrry Mejia was able to put out the fire and keep the score tied at 4-4.
  • However, Mejia, Francisco Rodriguez and Hisanori Takahashi gave the Mets 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief today, which gave Henry Blanco the opportunity to win it in the 11th inning with the Mets second walkoff home run in as many days.
  • Both Angel Pagan and Jason Bay went 1 for 4 with two RBI.

…i could definitely have seen the Mets showing up to the ballpark flat today, given the emotional roller coaster from last night, but the fight this team has, at home at least, is something i just haven’t seen in a real long time…they have shown a ton of character the last two days, when they could’ve easily been let down after blowing two leads late to a good team, and they re-grouped and won in dramatic and emotional fashion…

…it looks like Santana is still trying to find a comfort zone, although he pitched well today…in prior years, he seemed to have more crisp innings, but he’s had to fight his way through a lot of his innings over the past year…that said, his ability to fight and persevere is what makes him the caliber of pitcher he is…

Game Ball:

Goes to Henry Blanco for his game-winning, solo home run in the tenth inning, his first of the year.

Up Next:

The Mets will go for the sweep of the Giants tomorrow at Citi Field, with Oliver Perez facing Tim Lincecum.
