Buzz: Oliver Perez Unlikely to Make Next Start
After last night’s 7-2 loss, Jerry Manuel addressed reporters regarding Oliver Perez, and said he would meet with Perez today about his status in the starting rotation.
In addition, Dan Warthen, who met with both Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel after the game yesterday, said Perez is not competitive at this arm strength.
…it’s not just his arm strength at this point, it’s his mental strength as well which i believe is the first thing which needs to be fixed…i mean, he had these kinds of meltdowns when he was throwing 94 and 95 mph, so it’s not just his arm strength which has to be in question – it’s his entire game…
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Hisanori Takahashi or knuckleballer R.A. Dickey who is currently at Triple-A Buffalo, could serve as Perez’s replacement in the rotation..
…i’d rather see Takahashi get the start, or perhaps they could bring up Dillon Gee, over Dickey…Takahashi certainly deserves a look at this point, as he’s been simnply outstanding as a long reliever…
The 35 year old Dickey is 4-2 with a 2.23 ERA at Triple-A Buffalo in eight starts, and he has pitched two complete games, allowing eight walks in 60 innings.
