Note: about Jose Reyes’ At Bat Against Mariano Rivera
During the ninth inning of last night’s game, Jose Reyes batted right handed against Mariano Rivera.
Reyes ultimately popped out, and lowered his average to .211 on the year.
…i think he hit right handed because from that side of the plate, he has a better vantage point of Rivera’s cutter, which is devastating no matter what side of the plate a hitter is on…as difficult as it is to hit, it’s marginally easier from the right side, as the cutter doesn’t barrel in towards the right handed hitter’s hands, and gives the batter a chance to extend his arms…
Rivera has held right handed hitters to a .218 average over his career, which is 13 points higher than that of left handed hitters, and he’s allowed 38 home runs to righties, versus just 23 to lefties.
