The Least You Should Know:
- Johan Santana started for the Mets today, and things did not go well for him from the very beginning, as he threw almost 40 pitches in allowing four runs to his former team in the first inning.
- In contrast, Twins starter Carl Pavano started for the Twins and was masterful, firing a complete game, three hit shutout against the Mets.
- Jeff Francoeur had two of the Mets three hits, one of which was an infield single.
…Santana set the tone for this game right off the bat, knocking the Mets back on their heels with a long and laboring first inning…his fastball velocity varied between 88-90 mph, but once again he struggled with his command and location throughout the day…
…the Mets had no chance all day against Pavano…he was crisp and efficient, getting ahead of mostly every hitter, and with the Mets being down four runs before coming to bat, they were forced to be aggressive against a guy who did a great job spotting all of his pitches…
