Buzz: Can the Mets Add Payroll?
“Many observers say the Mets could use a star pitcher for a pennant run, but getting that player would entail piling up more payroll and operating losses. One of the team’s debt covenants states that payroll cannot increase, sources said.”

…i have not heard this is the case, nor have i seen this reported any other place… but, if accurate, that would mean having to pay enough in prospects that the other team will pick up the tab on whomever is being acquired… and, as we’ve seen with the Rangers and Dodgers, that is not a popular request around baseball these days…
