Mets could trade for Dotel, sign Hampton and dig up Roger Cedeno. It would be a circular loop closed.

    Not.

In all seriousness, Dotel would be a great acquisition for the Mets to stabilize the 8th inning, and I feel like he can be had for Bobby Parnell or Eddie Kunz. I’d trade for him in a second. Mets biggest hole is setup man.

I have no idea what exactly the Priates will want, but please, there is a vast difference between Parnell and Kunz. Parnell is doing a nice job in the majors, and Kunz gets shelled every outing in AA.

might as well make Mejia and Holt interchangeable for Lee too!

I didn’t say Parnell or Kunz were interchangeable in any way- just said they are two young power arms that the Pirates might want for Dotel. Parnell on the high end of the spectrum and obviously Kunz on the low…

Wasn’t Dotel just sitting on his hands in the bullpen when Kenny Rogers walked in the game winning run in 1999? Bobby V’s biggest tactical blunder…

I thought his biggest tactical blunder was Sept 29, 2001 when he brought a very tired Benetiz in to finish a game against the Braves where the Mets were up 5-1. Final score, 8-5 Braves and the Mets wildcard hopes went down the toilet.

I think Dotel would be a good pick up for bullpen depth maybe even 8th inning guy. He won’t cost much

Get a closer type for the 8th inning. I no longer consider Dotel a real closer, but he could fill the 8th inning role. He has a good shot to be traded, no?

Not a bad idea, but they do already have three guys in the pen who resemble Dotel in Igarashi Parnell and Nieve. Not sure its really an upgrade, but it couldnt hurt too much.

They cannot trade Parnell for him tho, thats not even shortsighted… its a lateral move with long term downside only.
