Poll: Trade Josh Thole in a Deal for Cliff Lee?
In 13 at bats this season for the Mets, 23–year0old rookie C Josh Thole has seven hits in seven games, during which he has yet to strike out while driving in four runs.
Last season, he hit .321 in 53 at bats.
…and that’s the thing, so far, the dude hits… period… he struggled early in Triple-A this season, but then snapped right back… again, hitting… no, he’s not going to jack 20 home runs… i’m not sure he’ll ever hit 10… but, he’ll hit… he’ll choke up on the bat, take pitches, work the count, and murder you with single after single, which, from a catcher, is not so bad…
Yesterday, Jerry Manuel told reporters that Thole has given the team quality at bats this season, especially against Steven Strabsurg, when he walked and singled in a 10–pitch at bat.
“I think Josh has improved and I’d like to see where that could fit for us,” Manuel said. “I think this is a good opportunity for him.”
In a report for the Daily News, Anthony McCarron talks to Thole about his time in Buffalo, his experience in the big-leagues, and whether he feels he is being showcased for a potential move to Seattle for Cliff Lee.
…well, the big rumor for quite a while has been that the Mariners are seeking a young catcher in any deal for lee… and so, obviously, thole’s name will come up… how could it not… he’s not a top prospect, but, again, he gets the job done… he seems quite sound, both at the plate and behind the dish and so i have to think he’s of at least some interest to seattle… the thing is, i like him too… i think he could be a good starting catcher… i don’t think he’s an all-star by any means… but, i so think he can eventually take the job, do well enough, pitchers will like him, he’ll hustle and hit and do everything well… that said, lee cannot be had for free…
