NY Post: Wally Backman Should Be Next In Line
I understand what Kevin Kernan is saying, which is what a lot of fans and writers have been saying, which is that replacing Manuel with Backman would be like throwing dynamite in to the team’s clubhouse.
“Backman wins everywhere he goes, and his players fight for him,” someone from the D-Backs told me last week.
However, I have been told by people close to the Mets that, if Backman is ever hired, it means the team will be making a total change in direction, from the GM down to the field… and, I just don’t see that process starting as early as this summer.
