Post Game: Mets 8 Cardinals 2
The Mets defeated the Cardinals by the score of 8 to 2 in Citi Field on Tuesday.
From the Associated Press:
- The Mets came home and ended Adam Wainwright‘s career-best scoreless streak at 26 innings.
- Wainwright was tagged for a season-worst six runs.
- Jeff Francoeur hit a three-run homer and Jose Reyes added a two-run shot… Francoeur put New York ahead for good at 4-1.
- The last time Beltran faced Wainwright was the 2006 NL championship series… Tonight, Beltran doubled to set up a run in the second, walked and scored… then hit an RBI single off Wainwright in the fifth.
- There was an odd sun delay when the Mets batted in the second. A ray of light shone through an concourse opening, and play was briefly held up for Cardinals C Yadier Molina to get sunglasses.

The Mets seemed to have a plan at the plate tonight, they were patient, it didn’t feel like they were pressing, they rattled Wainwright and scored eight runs on the night. In fact, the Mets had five walks tonight. Imagine that.
Nice job by Francoeur, who was added to the lineup to replace Bay, and he hit a three-run home run.
I like seeing Carlos Beltran drag his bat through the zone, go with the pitch and push outside pitches the other way… this makes me feel better about where he – and the team – is headed.
Niese did not get a lot of strike outs, but he and Josh Thole moved the ball around the strike zone well, and the opposition never really got good swings against him, putting lots of weak ground balls in play… despite not having his best stuff… he should give a special thank you to David Wright, who made some sensational, instinctive plays at third base tonight.
Apparently, thankfully, you can go home again…
The Mets continue their three-game series with the Cardinals tomorrow night at 7:10 pm, with Johan Santana (8-5, 2.79 ERA) taking on Jaime Garcia (9-4, 2.21 ERA).
