Quote: The Mets Should Fire Oliver Perez

by Matthew Cerrone on July 27th, 2010 at 8:29 am

“If the Mets’ brass wants to make a change that sends the right message to its floundering ballclub, don’t fire the hitting coach. Fire Oliver Perez… Let the players know you really do want to win… Firing Howard Johnson would be nothing more than using him as a scapegoat to appease their exasperated fans… They could set the right tone by firing Ollie.”

~ John Harper, the Daily News

I agree, Perez should be off the team – not because it will magically inspire people to hit, but because Perez is terrible, he should never have been given that ridiculous contract, he makes me want to pull my hair out, and he has no business being on any major-league roster right now, let alone one trying to make the playoffs.

In the last week or so, the Mets did not trade for Cliff Lee.  Then, they activated Perez.  I wonder what type of signal that sent to the clubhouse?
