Buzz: Ted Lilly Rumors – Wednesday
According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, should the the Cubs trade Ted Lilly, they have indicated they might be willing to take on part of the remaining money owed to him for the rest of this season.
According to Stark, considering both the Mets and Tigers have backed off in their pursuit of Lilly, the Cubs are not in the same position of strength in any potential deal for Lilly as they were before.
That said, Stark says an official from one team says “They’re going to move him. It’s just a matter of when”, but according to Phil Rogers from the Chicago Tribune, a scout says it’s more likely Astros RHP Brett Myers is dealt by the deadline than Lilly.
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports says the Phillies are interested in Lilly, as well as the Dodgers and Twins, but the Mets are still “waiting on direction from above.”
Lilly is in the final year of a four year, $40 million contract, with approximately $4 million still owed to him this season.
