R.A. Dickey (6-4, 2.55 ERA) will start for the Mets. Dickey is pitching on three days rest today after being removed from his start against the Dodgers on Sunday with a leg injury. Dickey has allowed just seven earned runs in 33 1/3 innings this month. Dickey is making his second career start and fourth appearance against the Cardinals today, and he’s allowed nine earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings against them.
Blake Hawksworth (4-6, 5.23 ERA) will start for the Cardinals. Hawksworth has worked mostly in relief this season for St. Louis, as he’s making just his eighth start of the year today. He has struggled as a starter, as he’s 3-3 with a 5.80 ERA in seven starts this year. He has made two relief appearances against the Mets this season, and has held them scoreless in three total innings of work.
