Jayson Stark of ESPN.com says it is possible Scott Downs does not get traded at all, ‘according to clubs that have spoken with the Blue Jays.’
Basically, the Jays are more than happy to receive one, maybe two, compensatory draft picks this winter, as opposed to selling low on Downs today.
Instead, Stark says there is a better chance the Jays end up moving relievers Kevin Gregg, who has a 3.63 ERA with 42 strike outs in 39 innings.
According to John Harper of the Daily News, the Mets had been scouting Downs and Gregg a few weeks ago.
Gregg is due roughly $1.25 million between now and the end of the season, though his contract has a $4.5 million club option for 2011, or a two-year, $8.75 million team option for 2011 and 2012.
Speaking of left-handed relievers…
The Rockies are willing to trade Joe Beimel or Randy Flores, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, ‘but they want legit prospect back.’

The Mets should save their money on scouting prospective players to trade for since it is very obvious by the successes on the field in the Omar era, that there are no players anywhere who can improve this juggernaut of a three above .500 team. We must have clinched the playoffs already we are so dominant.
So basically no matter how good or bad…. every team wants a legit prospect… which means…. count the Mets OUT!!
If solid relievers are bringing back legit prospects, let’s go out and get some. Put K-Rod and Feliciano out there and see what comes back.
Lilly and Kelly Johnson please.
If we trade a prospect for Kevin Gregg, I will be sick. I’d rather have Parnell out there than him.
I trust parnell, he is way better
