Mets will not trade Jeff Francoeur for Jose Guillen
The Royals will trade Jose Guillen for Jeff Francoeur, but the Mets are not interested, tweets Jon Heyman from SI.com.
Guillen is batting .269 with a .329 OBP, 16 doubles, 16 home runs and 60 RBI in 100 games for the Royals this season.
He is due roughly $6 million between now and the end of the season, after which he will be a free agent – while Francoeur can be under team control through 2011.
Yesterday, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com said on Twitter, “The Mets think they can trade Francoeur in August. He’s unlikely to get claimed on waivers.”
By the way, Omar Minaya refused to trade Ike Davis or Jon Niese to the Astros for Roy Oswalt, explains Heyman.
Instead, he writes, “The Mets are mostly focused on relief now, but not much developing so far.”
