The Mets are not close, discussing Rich Harden
Joel Sherman of the New York Post quotes a Mets official who says, “We are not very close to anything right now.”
According to Sherman, the Mets have discussed Rangers RHP Rich Harden, who could also be available through waivers in August, “when it is becoming more likely the Mets will make a trade.”
Harden was 3–3 with 5.68 ERA in 13 starts, during which he struck out 59 batters with 43 walks in 65 innings before going on the DL with a ‘gluteal strain.’
He is due roughly $3.5 million between now and the end of this season.
He has an $11 million mutual option for 2012 with a buyout.
Harden is expected to be activated from the disabled list this Saturday, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
