I’m Tired

Yes, I’m glad to hear Mike Pelfrey say he takes responsibility for last night.

Wonderful.  But, you still lost, Mike.

I appreciate hearing the Mets talk about ‘stepping up.’

That’s great.  But, they still lost.

The reporters repeatedly tell us about how hard Luis Castillo, Jeff Francoeur, and others, are working before every game.

That’s nice.  But, they still make errors, go hitless and lose.  Also, they’re making millions and millions of dollars, and we pay lots of money to watch them play, so I’d hope they’re working hard.  I mean, it’s their job to work hard, isn’t it?  So, congratulations, gentlemen, for doing what you’re supposed to do.

Frankly, I’m tired.  I really am.

I’m tired of hearing about ‘effort,’ and hearing about ‘winning,’ only to see the team make bad throws, leave men on base and lose in a self-proclaimed ‘big game.’

I’m tired of hearing about how a pitcher had ‘great stuff,’ despite watching him give up five runs in five innings.

I’m tried of hearing Ownership justify payroll and rationalize their choices, only to see other teams take action and do more with less.

The Mets gave me hope in June.  For a brief moment, I finally started putting Wainwright’s curve ball, the back-to-back collapses and the injuries from last season behind me.  The Mets were playing fun, exciting, aggressive, winning baseball and looking like a team I could be proud of again… and, much like during each of the previous four seasons, just as I started to believe, the team fell apart.

Look, I want the Mets to turn it around this season.  I hope they catch fire and get in to the playoffs.  I’ll keep watching, because I’m a fan, and I can’t help myself.

However, if this type of poor play and empty excuses continue, though I might keep watching, I am not sure sure other fans will.

In other words, the Mets need to take very seriously just how disgruntled their fans are, with some even turning from passionate to apathetic.
