Francisco Rodriguez had thumb surgery

The word from the people close to the team is that all went well with Rodriguez’s surgery, and the club will likely make an announcement soon.

Original Post at 6:00 pm:

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Francisco Rodriguez had surgery on his right thumb ligament in Manhattan Tuesday evening.

Like I said this morning, the Mets are still telling people they are exploring ways to possibly void the remainder of Rodriguez’s contract.

From what I was told, there are a few ways the Mets can go, from doing nothing to trying to trade him this winter, to being able to void the $3 million due to him this season (by way of suspension) to being able to void all of the money due to him between now and next season, as well as his 2012 $17.5 million option… and then preparing for the inevitable grievance from the Players Union.

In either case, earlier today, the buzz from Citi Field has suggested this will not drag on, and the team is likely to announce a decision sooner than later.
