Quote: David Wright on life since 2006

“The ‘06 playoffs were the best time I’ve had playing baseball. The energy and excitement of playing baseball here in New York kind of stands alone… We haven’t been able to consistently be that team. I thought we created a lot to build on in ‘06, but it seems like we have taken some steps back, off of that year. It is frustrating being able to experience that, but not being able to experience that on a consistent basis.”

Jeeez, I think EVERY fan would say the exact-same thing based on our own perspective from the stands.

The idea of things going downhill since the Adam Wainwright curve ball is just a metaphor, though I think we all agree it feels real.  The reality is, the Mets had a terrific pitching staff this season and with any sort of offense – in this league – they could easily be in the thick of both playoff races.

However, if I’m reading this correctly, what I think Wright is speaking to is the dream of being a perennial threat – not necessarily winning a ring every October, but being there every Fall with a chance.

By the way, this is the second time Wright has gone public with comments about the state of the team, and it’s direction, and I like him speaking up and saying things that I bet most Mets fans agree with.
